Santa Margherita Ligure is located on the Riviera di Levante, in a closed basin in the north-western part of the promontory of Portofino, and in the inner part of the Gulf of Tigullio. The village - located east of Genoa - is surrounded by hills covered with Mediterranean vegetation (woods of maritime pines, chestnut trees and, in the lower part, olive groves) on which are villas and gardens overlooking the so-called "Dolphin Coast" which connects the city to Portofino. The town is a popular tourist and seaside resort of the Riviera di Levante.
