Leg Shackles and Chain were used to restrict the movement of criminals in 19th Century Dorchester Prison. The Tolpuddle Martyrs were six Dorset farm workers famously transported as convicts from Dorchester prison to Australia in 1834. They may well have worn shackles such as these.
