Thermite Mined Iceberg Detonated from Raft. Seated in a rubber raft 300 yards from the target, Lieut. Commander Robertson P/ Dinsmore, USCG, Ice patrol executive officer, plunges the handle of an electric detonator which ignites thermite charges on a large iceberg in Cape Bonavista Bay, Nfld. Lieutenant (jg) Thomas P. Budinger, USCG, steadies the raft with oars. The electric current is carried to the charges by cable.
