The image shows soldiers from the 129th Infantry, formerly known as the 30th and 5th Illinois Infantry, passing through the town of Bethincourt in Meuse, France. The town shows significant damage from the heavy barrage carried out by the American forces and the shelling it received during the 1916 Battle of Verdun. The photograph was taken by Sgt. Jackson on September 28, 1918, and released by AEP Censor.
