The end of the finished armature is cov-ered with asbestos cloth to guard against flashing com-mutators. Busbar Bending Machine IBusbar bending issimplified by the useof a machine whichhas suitable adjust-ments. Apparatusmade by the GeneralDevices & FittingsCompany, Chicago,111., for this purposeis shown in the illus-tration. It can be setto bend bars to anydesired angle up to90 deg., and by an ad-ditional adjustmentany number of piecescan be bent with theproper allowance sothat they will lie together evenly spaced in a stack. The device will handle bars up to 6 in. in width and% in. in thickness. The bar to be bent is run throughthe bed of the machine and clasped in place. Operat-ing the long bending arm causes a heavy jaw to carrythe ends of the bar to the desired DEVICE FOR BENDING BUSBARS Series Relay for High-Voltage Circuits For tripping oil circuit breakers the high-voltageseries relay shown in the illustration has been devel-oped for installations where eco-nomic considerations prohibitthe use of the usual relays con-nected to current transformers. The upper section consists ofa solenoid mounted on a high-voltage insulator to isolate itfrom the ground. The coil ofthis solenoid is connected inseries with the line on which itoperates. One end of the coil isalso connected to the solenoidframe to avoid objectionablestatic stresses. The lower sec-tion of the relay contains thecalibration parts, adjustmentsfor load settings, time-limit ar-rangements and circuit breakercontrol circuit contacts. Thetwo sections are connected by along wooden rod so that all theparts in the lower section ex-cept the contacts can be at ground potential, making itsafe for adjustments even when the line is at operatingvoltage. These relays ope
