Transnistria is a Moldavian partial republic under the Russian influence east of the river Dnister. The region split in 1992 after a war lasting several months from Moldova and is not recognized by any other country. Even the Russian-dependent entity is known as the Transdnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Pridnestrovkaja Moldavskaja Respublika / PMR). Bender is the second largest city in the region. Also because of its geostrategic importance on the river Dnister you can see many militants on the streets.
