The first school in the township was held in 1852, and itis hnovn as the Vernon school. The system has met withsatisfactory growth. There are now nine schools in the town-ship, expending annually about three thousand dollars fortheir maintenance. The religious interests of the township are looked afterby two Lutheran churches.
