Skull cast of a now extinct sabertooth cat (Smilodon fatalis) that lived 10,000 to 40,000 years ago. Saber-toothed tiger refers to the extinct subfamilies of Machairodontinae (Felidae), Barbourofelidae (Feliformia), and Nimravidae (Feliformia) that were found worldwide from the Eocene Epoch to the end of the Pleistocene Epoch, existing for approximately 42 million years.
