Nevertheless, Presbyterian influence increased steadily, andbecame powerful, if not dominant, in North Carolina. Thiswas, indeed, chiefly through that section of the State with whichwe are not at present particularly concerned. In the East,Presbyterianism has liad but few strong centres until recenttimes. But Sir Wm.
