Apollo 11 rollout before launch, July 1969. Mobile Launcher Platform being used to transport the assembled Saturn V rocket and gantry tower to its launch pad for the Apollo 11 mission. The Apollo 11 mission was launched from pad 39a at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA, on 16 July 1969. It was the first crewed mission to land on the Moon. Crew members were Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon's surface on 20 July, while Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module. They returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean on 24 July.
