Hurricane Jeanne approaching the Bahamas (centre left). This image was taken at 18:00 GMT on 23rd September 2004 by the MODIS instrument on NASA's Aqua satellite. Jeanne caused flooding and landslides that killed more than 1500 people on Haiti, before moving on to batter the Bahamas on 25th September. It then turned to Florida, USA, on 26th September, where sustained winds of over 160 kilometres per hour cut power lines and damaged buildings. It was the fourth hurricane to hit Florida in the 2004 season, after Charley, Frances and Ivan.
