Commander-in-Chief of the Militia.—The governor iscommander-in-chief of the militia of the State when they arenot in the service of the United States. The governor has at all times the appointment of certainofficers of the militia. Veto.—The governors veto has been discussed in anotherplace. Be sure to review it in this connection. Salary.—The governor receives a salary of $6,coo a yearand has the use of the executive mansion. I!. STATE GOVERNMENT. 41 LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR. Successor to Governor. —In case of the death, resigna-tion, or disability of the governor, the lieutenant-governorbecomes governor. In case of his disability also, the presi-dent pro tempore of the Senate, and in case of his disabilitythe duties of governor devolve upon the Speaker of theHouse for the remainder of the term. President of the Senate. — The lieutenant-governor isPresident of the Senate, but has no vote except in case of atie. Salary.—The lieutenant-governors salary is $1,000 ayear. SECRETARY OF STATE. Keeper of Public Acts. — The secretary of State mustkeep in his office, properly filed and indexed, all public acts,laws and resolutions of the General Assembly. When the legislature is not in session, he keeps all booksand papers belonging to each house. Calls House to Order.—The secretary of State calls theHouse of Representatives to order, and presides until a tem-porary
