FAMILY SCOLYTIDAE 495 This beetle infests the olive (Olea cuspidata) in North Baluchistan andpossibly neighbouring tracts. I found a living tree badlyLife History. infested by the insects on 9 November 1905, the femalesbeing engaged in eating out elongate vertical egg-galleries some two inches in length transversely across the tree instead ofparallel to the longitudinal axis as is the general rule of the Indian speciesof the genus, and laying the eggs in small indentations on either side all theway up. The larvae eat out wavy galleries some two and a half inches inlength, making the usual Sphaerotrypes pattern in the wood. I know nothingfurther about the life history of this insect.
