Remarks: Whether Sars's Lecythia brevicornis is identical with Appellof's Edwardsia carnea is very dif- ficult to decide; on the other hand the species described by Appellof is the same species as Edwardsia Sarsii Diib. & Koren, which I have been able to substantiate on specimens belonging to the Museum of Christiania and labelled "Ed- wardsia sarsii Diib. & Koren, Bergen, Manger, Sars". As to Lecythia it is possible that Sars's description alludes to the species later on described by Gosse as Edwardsia car- nea ; in reality S ars's figure and description of this species and its occurrence on Saxicava more recall Edwardsia carnea Gosse than Paraedwardsia carnea (Diib. & Koren). As it is, however, hardly possible to decide these 1 Appellof (1891, p. 21) states that the parieto-basilar muscles are absent in E. carnea. This is certainly not the as the part of the parietal muscles ou the opposite side of the pennons corresponds to the parieto-basilar muscle (com- pare Carlgren iyo5, p. 5i7_5i8).. Textfig. 88—92.
