It was designed forthe restraint and employment of the idle and vicious poor, forhabitual drunkards, beggars and those condemned for petty offencesin the inferior courts of justice. The House of Correction, at South Boston, is an elaborate in-stitution, thoroughly equipped, and has a steam-engine of twenty-horse power in its workshop.
