The elaborate multi-coloured clock was donated by Charles Hansford for the Borough Gardens, that were commissioned from William Goldring (1854-1919) by the mayor Alderman Gregory after purchasing land from the Duchy of Cornwall, and were implemented by the Borough Surveyor, G J Hunt.
