Her teachers taught the Spanish language and Christianfaith to thousands of aborigines. There were Spanish schoolsfor Indians in America as early as 1524. Many books indifferent Indian languages were printed by the Spanish inMexico, where a printing press was set up as early as the other hand, the only Indian book printed in America. Spanish uni-versities in America were ready to celebrate their first centen-nial when Harvard was founded (1636). The original walls of the church of San Miguel,which was built in Santa Fe (1636), are still standing, and theyform a part of a church which is used today.
