This is accomplished by meansof a recess in the pedestals and a somewhat similar recess in thegib, so that by removing the pedestal cup below the journal, andjacking the locomotive up just sufficiently to relieve the pressureon the journal, the gibs can be dropped to a point where the up-per flanges slide off.
