In this tjpe of rakes, the opeiation of gatheringand bringing the grain to the cutters and laying it on theplatform, as well as discharging it therefrom in gavels suit-able for binding, is performed by the same organized mech-anism, instead of by separate devices, as with the first namedrake. It was extensively used on the Kirby machines andon a machine oiganized expressly for its use and known asthe Burdick Eeaper. About 35,000 of these rakes havebeen made and sold up to the present time, Mr. Burdick also obtained a patent in conjunction withMr. O. F. Daggett, for improvements in two-wheeled mow-ers, which has also been constructed by Messrs. D. & Co.
