View from an upper window of Aya Sofya (Hagia Sophia) the Church of Holy Wisdom in Istanbul, The small domes in the foreground are part of a former mosque with a massive main dome. The building was originally a christian church dating from the 6th century when it was constructed on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. For over 800 years the basilica formed the largest building in the world. In the 15th century was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans. The building is now a museum and public monument. In the distance can be seen minarets and the dome of The Blue Mosque which lies on the other side of Sultanahmet Square.
