Redan Ridge Cemetery, No. 3, Beaumont-Hamel (Somme) A Great War cemetery


Redan Ridge Cemetery is a British military cemetery with casualties from the First World War , situated in the French municipality of Beaumont-Hamel in the department of Somme . The cemetery is less than a mile north of the village center of Beaumont and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission . The small cemetery has more than 50 graves, of which 33 identified graves. The site has an area of 283 sqm on the north side the Cross of Sacrifice and is accessible via a 35 m long access path. Redan Ridge No. 3 is among the old German front line trenches of the 1916 Somme battlefield. It contains the graves of 67 soldiers from the United Kingdom, 13 of which, destroyed by shell fire, are now represented by special memorials. The unnamed graves number 34. The great majority of these officers and men fell in November, 1916, and belonged to the 2nd Division.
