Admiral Matome Ugaki with his Yokosuka D4Y3 posing before final Kamikaze attack off Okinawa (15. August 1945). Admiral Ugaki commandeered a plane for a final attack after Emperor Hirohito announced Japan's surrender. The final messages from Ugaki's plane announced they were diving towards a ship, but American records have no account of kamikaze attacks that day. The bodies of three men in a wrecked aircraft were found later and one of them, wearing an admirals uniform, was probably Ugaki.
