It is independent, as will be seen, of anymathematical calculations, it is accurate, and the results areself-proving, for the chart, when complete, discloses at once ifthe observations have been made correctly or not. The methodin itself comorises geometrical and anatomical localisation. Q Illustration 32,Localising appliances. combined with mechanical guidance. The appliances neces-sary are very simple, and can, should the situation demandit, be home made. (Illustration 32.) Two pairs of compasses are shaped as illustrated in and 2. Two sizes are necessary, as it is desirable that the X-Ray Observations for Foreign Bodies 45 rings shall be parallel when in use; a large pair (for the body)about 35 cm. long, a second pair (for the limbs) about 125cm. The rings in each case can be made to enclose smallerrings to facilitate the centering of a tiny foreign body (Figs, i:and 2, b, c, and d). The body compasses are further improvedby jointing the last 6 or 7 cm. of the arms by means of a smallbolt and thumb screw. (Fig. la.) With this additionaladjustment the rings can be placed in contact with the bodyin any position.
