Each return coil consists of one 2-inch pipe and four 1%-inch pipes, which connect with two 3-inch returns near the boiler. There is a downward slant from the highest point, which is near the boiler. How mudi more hot water piping will be needed to heat the house if a suit- able boiler is installed! Can I use the piping as it is if I decide to put in a steam boiler! The temperature needed will be about 55 degrees in zero weather. The sides and gables of the house have two thicknesses of single-thick glass and the house is well protected from the north and west winds. I am strongly inclined to use a steam boiler, as it is difficult to get the boiler low enough for hot water. C. G. L.—N. Y. In addition to the data furnished in the foregoing inquiry, the sketch shows that the house has four feet of glass in each wall, \7hether steam or hot water is used for heating, the boiler should have a grate about thirty inches square. This would be rated for something like 2,000 square feet of hot water radiation and 1,000 square feet of low-pressure steam radiation. For use with steam, the radiation now in the house is not far from the amount required for 55 degrees in zero weather, and no change would be required in the coils on the walls, although we would prefer to use three 1%-inch instead of the two 2-inch pipes ^lentioned. While the three 3-inch flows may be retained for steam heating, we would prefer to use four 2-inch flows. If we were to repipe the house for steam, we would use four 1%-inch flow pipes and twelve 1%-inch returns in the wall coils. For hot water heating we would use four 2%-inch flow pipes and sixteen 2-inch returns. PROVIDENOE. The Market.
