Close up image of fiberglass cloth. This cloth, a bi-directional fiber weave (BID) is commonly used for composite structures.

This is a close up of the glass cloth used to create fiberglass structures. The appearance is very similar to both Kevlar and Carbon Fiber cloth with the only real visual differences being the color. The physical and strength properties are somewhat different from Kevlar and Carbon Fiber. Composites are used more and more often in architectural work and aerospace, military, and airplane construction work. With very similar properties (although somewhat lower strength and stiffness) glass cloth is substantially less expensive than carbon fiber cloth and easier to work with.
