Dairy cattle farming. Cows resting in sandbed cubicles in an open-sided shed on a dairy farm. One of the cows is using a cow brush (yellow) to groom and clean itself. Cows use these brushes to groom their rear, head and neck areas. Regular grooming removes parasites and improves hygiene and blood circulation. These domesticated cows (Bos primigenius taurus) are a dairy breed, being farmed for their milk. This is one of the farms in Nottinghamshire, UK, advised by nutrition expert Ian Smith, finalist in the 'Farm Adviser of the Year' category in the 2011 Farmers Weekly Awards.
