Fluid removed from knee. Syringe containing synovial fluid removed (aspirated) from a swollen knee (effusion) after a twisting injury. Joint aspiration, or arthrocentesis, is conducted in order to collect fluid from inside the knee for analysis including cell count, culture for bacteria, and examination for crystals, such as uric acid.
