Phillips Brooks in 1865, the year he visited the village of Bethlehem in the Sanjak of Jerusalem, which would inspire the words he wrote for the Christmas hymn, "O Little Town of Bethlehem", first performed in 1868 at Church of the Holy Trinity, Philadelphia, where Brooks was Rector.
