The English Seaman's Graveyard on hanö island
aus Wikipedia: Während der Napoleonischen Kriege beziehungsweise der Kontinentalsperre war Hanö im Schwedisch-englischen Krieg von 1810 bis 1812 Stützpunkt der englischen Flotte. Unter anderen war James Saumarez, 1. Baron de Saumarez hier mit der berühmten HMS Victory kurzzeitig stationiert. An die Ereignisse erinnert ein „Seamans Graveyard“ für 15 hier bestattete britische Seeleute. Eine Abordnung der Royal Navy errichtete 1972 ein großes Holzkreuz. Between 1810 and 1812 the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom used the island as its base during its operations in the Baltic Sea. The English Seaman's Graveyard is situated on the island, and still today British warships visit the island to pay tribute to the fifteen sailors who rest there. In 1972 the Royal Navy constructed a big wooden cross on the spot of the graveyard which is visible several miles out to sea.
