The aneroid barometer ispeculiarly sensitive to all atmosphericchanges, and is thus invaluable formeteorological forecasts. A regularcode of phenomena has been formulatedby meteorologists, from which I takethe following : A rapid rise indicates unsettledweather. A gradual rise indicates settledweather. A rise with dry air and cold increas-ing in summer indicates wind from thenorthward, and if rain has fallen betterweather may be expected.
