LOS ANGELES SUNKEN GARDENS. A "Great Trade Opportunity. Tlie success of the sunken gardens at Exi)osition park, Los Angeles, Cal., last year, on the occasion of the hig show by the California Nurserymen's Associa- tion, was so marked and the feature proved so popular that an appropriation was made to continue it this year. 0. W. Howard is again the leading spirit and all through the present spring and early summer the 7-acre garden has been a thing of beauty. While a large number of Dutch bulbs were used, 50,000 or more, yet these were not depended upon alone to make a display. Every month in the year, or one might say every week, there is something new and striking to see here and the general public shows its appreciation by visiting it freely. This is no 1-man or 1-firm "feature; everyone in the trade is invited to come and display anything he wishes, whether plants or seeds to produce plants. A neat sign is provided giving credit to wlioever exhibits. One taken at random reads: "This sunken garden is perma- nently maintained as an exhibition fea- ture by the California Association of Nurserymen. Chrysanthemum carina- tum sown January 21, 1922, bv Hallawell Seed Co., San ; 'This indi- vidual bed, as a matter of fact, was al- ready past, but the idea is the same in all, and anyone in the trade can have the same publicity and have his plants taken care of absolutely free.
