Child's foot. Coloured X-ray of the healthy right foot of an eight year old boy. The toes are made up of the phalanx bones (phalanges), two for the big toe (lower right) and three for the others. Metatarsal bones in the mid-foot (lower centre) link the phalanges to the tarsal bones. The tarsal bones include the calcaneus bone (heel, upper left). These bones articulate with the lower leg bones (top right) to form the ankle.
