Glass manufacture. Worker adjusting a sheet of glass supported on rubber-covered springs and underlit by strip lighting. Glass is an amorphous, transparent solid produced by cooling a molten mix of silica (silicon dioxide, as in sand), soda (sodium carbonate) and lime (calcium oxide). Sheet glass is used in windows. This is fire glass, a form of glass that is strengthened to resist the high temperatures of a fire.
