View across Plymouth Sound, the natural harbour from where Sir Francis Drake sailed with the Armada to defend England from invasion by the Spanish in the 17th century. This view looks towards the HOE at Plymouth where Sir Francis Drake was reported as playing bowls when the Armada was first sighted. The HOE also is the site of SMEATONS TOWER a lighthouse which was originally sited some miles out to sea.
