Tourists walking along the Cobb in Lyme Regis, on the Jurassic Coast, Dorset, England
The Cobb featured in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion (1818) and in the 1981 film The French Lieutenant's Woman, starring Meryl Streep and based on the 1969 novel of the same name by British writer John Fowles. The poet Tennyson is said to have gone straight to the Cobb on his arrival, saying, "Show me the exact spot where Louisa Musgrove fell!"
