He was one of theearliest pioneers of the Trenton beau-ties, and it was by him that the firsthouse, called the Rural Resort, forthe accommodation of visitors, wasbuilt. It has formed an immense ex-cavation, having thrown out thousandsof tons from the parapet rock, visibleat the stairs, and is annually forcingoff slabs at the west corner, againstwhich it incessantly forces a section ofits powerful sheet. A naked mass ofrock, extending up 150 feet, juts frown-ingly forward, which is ascended bynatural steps to a point from which thevisitor looks securely down upon therushing waters.
