This species differs from all other Antarctic and sub-Antarctic species as regards the chela, which recalls that of, , A'^. grossipes (Fabr.) from the North Atlantic (Hoek, 1881, p. 44, pi. iii, figs. 9-12, pi. iv, fig. i). The northern species, however, has the tarsus elongated and longer than the propodus; there are also three or four very long spines on the proximal ventral margin of the latter and the claw is much longer. The male is unknown, but the species probably belongs to group I. Distribution. One mile off the east coast of Bouvet Island.
