"A much discussed question today is whether seed advertisements should appear in trade papers with prices at- tached. To properly understand the question one wants to put oneself in the position of a buyer and lose sight of the fact for the moment that he is a seller," writes C. Cunliffe, managing directpr of Cunliffe 's Seeds, Ltd., South- port, England, in a British' publication. "Again, it is not a bad thing to for- get all about the seed trade for the moment and imagine yourself looking into a shop window, say, with your wife as a companion. If in the window some articles are marked with their prices, and some are not, then the lady, in ninety-nine cases out of a hundred, would soon settle the question as to which of the goods she would buy. The impression one gathers from a shop window in which goods are displayed without prices is that those articles are, as a rule, dear. The advertisement often is sent out in place of a traveler or to back up the efforts of the traveler. Fancy a traveler calling and asking for orders but submitting no prices. It may be argued that the traveler gives his prices in the privacy of your office; equally true is it that the advertise- ment is read in the privacy of your office. Take our trade press of today.
