Broken staircase going down to a mikveh, a Jewish Ritual Bath or Purification Bath,This staircase was broke apart by an earthquake in the year 31 BC. A number of Mikvehs were found among the ruins in the Second Temple era site of Qumran. Christian baptism originated from the Jewish Mikveh.
