Scrotal hernia surgery. Surgeons removing (excising) a large hernia sac from a male patient undergoing surgery to correct a large indirect inguinal (scrotal) hernia. A hernia occurs when an organ, such as a loop of the intestine, protrudes from a weak area in the body wall. Here, the intestines are protruding through a weak area in the abdominal muscles, into the inguinal canal and have descended to the bottom of the scrotum. Here, they are using an electrocautery device to cut the sac and minimise bleeding.
