Devon. Circa. 1906 – A cabinet portrait photograph of a British sailor of the Royal Naval Reserve, taken around 1906 by the photographer, W. H. Waterfield of 38 Marlborough Street, Devonport, Devon, England. The sailor wears the reservist’s “R” insignia on his sleeve and the tally on his cap indicates that he is a member of the crew of the Royal Navy’s Devonshire Class armoured cruiser, Argyll. This ship was launched in March 1904 and completed at Devonport on in December 1905. In October 1915 she ran aground and was wrecked.
