Two additional dampers are installed in the twopipes leading from the bottom of the upright pipe to theopening in the top of the oven. These dampers are inter-locked and are both operated from the same lever at thefront of the oven. Efficient operation is obtained by regu-lating these dampers. The problem which the shop foreman has to solve is to getout a certain amount of material in the shortest possibletime. On wet or damp days when there is an accumulationof moisture in the atmosphere, it is necessary that the airin the oven be changed more frequently than would benecessary on a dry hot day. By watching the indicationsgiven by the recording thermometer, the man in charge isenabled to tell the length of time consumed in heating upand cooling off the oven and, by means of a series of voltage. PLACING AN ARMATURE IN THE OVEX BY MEANS OF AN AIR HOIST readings described later, he is able to tell the speed at whichthe drying is taking place. The dampers are then adjustedto meet the conditions and give the most rapid and efficientdrying and baking. To provide for hand regulation of the controlling appa-ratus, two push-button switches are provided. A doublepush-button switch, located alongside the magnet switch, enables the operator to cut the equipment in and out at a safety precaution to insure that the heating circuit isnever closed when the doors are opened, an additional push-button switch is installed at the front of the oven. This isoperated by a projection on one of the doors so that theheating circuit is opened whenever the doors are open. To provide a check for the efficient operation of the ovenand to make certain that no armatures are removed before
