Owing to therecent date of erection of these cottages, none of themhave the improved grounds that will doubtless be seenat no distant future. In 1891 Dr. J. W. Grindle. of New York, purchasedthe old Stover Hatch house and remodelled it. Subse-quently he bought the Noyes ship-yard lot adjoining,and at a considerable expense has graded it up to makea handsome lawn. This cottage is on Perkins street, ashort distance below the Acadian Summer Cottages. 87 In 1889 Prof. James B. Ames, of Cambridge, Mass.,dean of the Harvard Law School, bought what was knownas the Jonathan Perkins farm. It is a beautiful lo-cality on Perkins Poiut, in North Castine, at the endof Mill lane. He has one of the best barns in the county,and the whole farm is rapidly being brought under ahigh state of cultivation. In 1890 Prof. W. A. Keener, dean of Columbia LawSchool, New York, bought the Jesse Gardner farm,just out of the village, and has greatly improved it. Theplace is known as Hill Crest. There is now. 1S95, in process of construction, on theMorses Cove road, about two and one-half miles fromthe village, in what was formerly known as Hatchswoods, the largest and probably one of the finest housesin this vicinity. It is owned by Mr. W. D. Porter, ofChicago. It has an extensive view up and down thePenobscot river. The grounds are very spacious, andare to
