The castle of Silves is one of the most important monuments of the arabian epoch between the 7th and 14th century in the Algarve. Silves has been an open minded city, an oasis for poets and filosofers and growing intelectual centre. After the reconquista it has lost his importance and became a forgotten little town of the countryside.
