There were man}- larg-e and beautifultrees that had to be taken up and removed; and, whenthis work was completed, the excavations for thefoundations and the cellar were undertaken. All ofthis work was done by the slaves. The site was abeautiful one, embracing- fourteen acres, situated twomiles southeast from the city, on the Memphis andCharleston railroad. The road ran in front of theplace and the Boss built a flag--station there, for theaccommodation of himself and his neig-hbors, whichwas named McGee Station, THIRTY YEARS A NKW AND SPLENDID HOUSE.
