Masters of the rocks. Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are found in a wide range of areas in Western North America. Although people often think bighorns are found only in mountains, their habitat also includes some low, hot, and rocky desert areas. Except for man and hunting, their only real predator is the cougar. The bighorn is mostly brown in summer and gray in winter. Length of adult rams is about 67 inches (170 cm), tail 5 inches (12 cm), height at shoulder is about 37 inches (94) cm, and they weigh up to 275 pounds (125 kg). Females (ewes) are around 20% smaller and much lighter, averaging 143 pounds (65 kg). Both sexes have horns, but the rams have much larger horns and they curl up to over 360 degrees, depending on age.
