Blue sky view desert Rabbitbrush, Prickly Pear Cactus, rock strata, green trees valley floor , Visitor Centre, Zion Canyon, Utah

A view, looking north, above an ancient site is reached from the Zion canyon Visitor's Centre by the short, steep Archaeology Trail ( miles round trip). An interpretative information sign at the site reads: 'The same river that sustains a corridor of trees and wildlife in Zion Canyon also supported human culture. Around 1000 years ago Ancestral Puebloan People prepared and stored food that they farmed and gathered in Zion Canyon. The site yielded evidence that here they made utensils and storage vessels'. People of the Virgin Anasazi Pueblo Culture lived at Zion until about 1150 AD, before disappearing perhaps as a result of climate change causing increased desertification in the 11th and 12th centuries.
