On my second trip up to Jaffna this year I was lucky enough to visit the Nainativu island, which is home to the Naagadeepa Vihara (a Buddhist temple) and the Naagapoosani Amman Kovil. While those two establishments were not particularly interesting, the trip and the surroundings were. The water in the Jaffna peninsula area is incredibly still and clear with different areas being distinctively different shades of blue. Despite this there are numerous boat wrecks on and near the shores. These, like many buildings in Jaffna itself, possibly date back to the civil war which ended 4 years ago. They are chilling reminders that despite the incredible serenity of these areas today, it was quite different not too long ago. Nikon D800 with a ProOptics (Samyang/B+W/Rokinon) 14mm
