Sir Thomas Gresham, the founder of Gresham Vol. IL College and of the Royal Exchange, London,was horn in that city about the year 1518, the secondson of Sir Richard Gresham, who served the office ofsherifiF in 1531, and that of Lord Mayor in 1537. Gresham received a liberal educaticm, and wassent to GonviU Hall, now Caius College, Cambridge,where he acquired the character of a scholar, a« 226 THE SATURDAY MAGAZINE.
