Laparoscopy. Surgeons operate laparoscopes during abdominal \key-hole\" surgery in an operating theatre. While positioning and using the devices, the surgeons monitor images inside of the body produced through the laparoscopes on a monitor (not seen here). The laparoscope in the foreground is fitted with internal surgical tools. A laparoscope is a type of endoscope that is inserted into a patient's abdomen to view and operate on internal organs. It is commonly used for minor surgery; only a small incision has to be made which reduces the risk of infection and scar formation. A common operation of this type is female sterilisation."
